Arjuno Welirang climbing tour is one of the best choices for climbing to volcanoes in East Java, Indonesia apart from Mount Semeru. This volcano is located not far from the city of Surabaya so it is very easy to access for tourists who want to climb.
The climbing route to the top of Mount Arjuno and Welirang can be via 4 routes, namely via the Tretes, Tambaksari, Lawang and Sumber Brantas gates.

Mount Arjuno Climbing Package
Of the 4 climbing routes to the peaks of Mount Arjuno and Welirang, the most popular is via the tretes post route because the views are better and there are many springs. The easiest route to the ramp is via the Sumber Brantas post.
Hike Arjuno Welirang Itinerary via Tretes
Day 1: Surabaya – Trest (760 m above sea level) – Kokopan (1650 m above sea level) – Lembah Kijang (2485 m above sea level)
Pick up at Surabaya in the morning then go to Tretes basecamp which is about 2 hours away with our private air-conditioned car.
Then hike to Lembah Kijang camp for about 4-5 hours. On this day, you will walk through a wide stone path to the Sulfur Miners’ Refuge and then a small dirt road to the campsite. You will camp and dine at the Lembah Kijang campsite.
Day 2: Lembah Kijang (2485m above sea level) – Summit of Mount Arjuno (3339m above sea level) – Wot Lemah (2965m above sea level)
You will start early in the morning to attack the summit. You will walk for 3 hours to the summit, from where you can see the beautiful view from around. You will then return to Lembah Kijang where you will have breakfast. You will continue to walk to Wot Lemah where you will have lunch. Camp and dine at Wot Lemah.
Day 3: Summit of Mount Welirang (3100m) – Trest (760 m above sea level) – Surabaya
You will have breakfast at 6:30 in the morning, and walk to the top of Mount Welirang for about 1.5 hours. You will see many active fumeroles along the path, from where the miners extract the sulfur. You can also go further to the summit and see the largest crater of this volcano.
Back to Trest and transfer to Surabaya. Tour ended.
Hike Arjuno Welirang Itinerary Via Sumber Brantas
Day 1 : Malang – Sumber Brantas – Post 1-2 – Lengkehan Valley
Pick up at Malang in the morning then drive to the climbing hill in Sumber Brantas village. Arrive at the climbing post, then change to a special vehicle (pick-up car) to go to the boundary between the village and the forest. Then climb for about 10 minutes to arrive at post 1.
- If you don’t take a pick-up car, climb for around 2-3 hours.
After resting, continue to post 2 for around 1.5 hours. Continue to post 3 with a climbing time of 1.5 hours.
Arriving at post 3 then proceed to Lengkehan valley with a climbing time of 45 minutes, set up a tent to rest.
Day 2 : Lengkehan Valley – Arjuno Summit
At 02.00am preparation to climb Arjuno peak which can be reached in 3.5 hours.
Arriving at the top of Arjuno, you can see a beautiful sunrise. After fasting, return to Lengkehan Valley, have lunch and rest.
Day 3 : Lengkehan Valley – Welirang Summit
At 3 am, start climbing to the top of Mount Welirang. The climbing time is around 2,5 hours.
Once satisfied enjoying the natural beauty from the top of Mount Welirang then descend to Cangar area. If you still have time, you can relax in a natural hot spring pool. And then back to Surabaya. Tour finished.

Day 1 Surabaya – Purwosari – Post 5 Makutoromo
09.00 – 10.00: Meeting point Surabaya
10.00 – 12.00: Travel to the Purwosari Climbing Post
12.00 – 12.30: Prepare to start climbing
12.30 – 17.00: Start climbing to Post 5 Makutoromo
17.00 – 18.00: Enjoy the sunset at Post 5 Makutoromo
18.00 – 20.00: Dinner, rest for tomorrow journey
Day 2 Sendang Widodaren – Mount Arjuno Summit
05.00 – 08.00: Morning call, sunrise hunting & exploring Sendang Widodaren
08.00 – 10.00: Breakfast followed by preparing for the summit
10.00 – 16.00: Start summit to the peak of Ogal-agil Mount Arjuno
16.00 – 18.00: Enjoy sunset at Ogal-agil Peak, Mount Arjuno with coffee/tea
18.00 – 20.00: Start descending to Post 5 Makutoromo
20.00 – 21.00: Dinner & rest
Day 3 Sendang Widodaren – Surabaya
